How old were you when you had your very first boyfriend/girlfriend? Do you still know them now?
Submitted by KIM.Ah, boyfriends. To tell you the truth, I haven't had very many. I guess that's what happens when you marry the same person you were dating when you were 17... but anyway, for the sake of answering the question... let's get into the Way Back Machine.
I guess we should start with High School, because, if memory serves -- middle school boyfriends are only your boyfriend so that the two of you can see who can break-up with whom in the lunch room first...
My first boyfriend of my 9th grade year was a boy named Matt. Matt and I first met at a party being thrown by a set of twins with whom I'd been friends since I was 10. We'll call them T and D. Matt and D dated briefly, but ultimately agreed that they would be better off as friends. So anyway Matt was invited to the party as was I. T and D had a pool table in their basement -- where the party was being held -- where upon Matt and I got acquainted over a friendly game of pool. At the end of the evening Matt asked me for my phone number, which I gave him, and in a later phone conversation asked me if I would be his girlfriend. I said "Sure." or something to that effect, and it was official. We were a 'couple'. Our relationship continued and grew over the next few weeks until I met someone else who's girlfriend I'd rather be, at which time I had my friend Lisa call Matt and deliver the bad news.
To answer the later half of the question, I have absolutely no idea what became of Matt. He was a nice enough kid though, and I hope he's gone on to do and see lots of wonderful things in the past 11 years.
What's odd though, is that 3 later in that very same basement I met my husband over a game of pool on that very same table. It's like T and D's pool table was the alpha and the omega of my 3 year long dating career.
Where do you consider home? Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living? Why is it home?
Submitted by uncagedbird.
Home, eh? That's a tough one. Mostly because when I was growing up my family moved a total of 5 times, and since then, my husband and I have moved a total of 9 times. So that's 14 different physical 'homes' in my short 25 years. That means I've moved an average of once every 1.7 years. "Home" the street address is never home for long.
I guess, for me, the feeling of home comes not so much from a building, but from the people and things in the building. I feel at home as long as I have my books, and my couch, and my gecko, and my husband.
There are plenty of adages about where home is...
"Home is Where You Hang Your Hat" - Okay, sure home is where ever you go and unwind, relax and be casual...
"Home is Where The Heart Is" - I can see that. Home is the place you wish you were.
"Home is Where They Stand By You" - Yep, that sounds true enough. Home is where you're accepted.
--similarly--
"Home is Where They Have To Let You In" - Home is where you're accepted no matter what.
"Home is Where The Navy/Army/Marine Corps/Air Force Sends Us" - Home is where you're stationed.
"Home is Where You Hang Your @" - This one seems to ring true for me. HighlandAmy.com has been my cyber home through 3 physical homes... hopefully more, as I'd like to hang on to the domain for a while, but not too many more, as after 14 of them, the novelty of moves has worn a little thin ;)
What other names did your parents consider for you?
Until my emergence my parents expected that I would be a boy baby... so until that day I was Timothy James. Timothy James is a very nice name and all, but I'm glad they decided to go with Amy instead.
What time is your alarm clock set for? Do you use the snooze button?
Our alarm is generally set for 3:15, 3:25, and 3:30. I know, Andy has to get up REALLY early! And do we snooze? Oh yeah. We snooze. That's why it's set to go off several times. Because we will snooze until the the cows come home. Every time it goes off one of us hits snooze - so it pretty much goes off every few minutes until we finally get up.
