What were you afraid of as a child that seems silly to you now?

Well... I guess this wasn't when I was a child... I was 12... but I do think I should mention that as a small child I wasn't allowed to watch movies or TV shows that weren't specifically made for children, so once I was old enough to effectively sneak to watch rated R horror movies (such as... say... Stephen King's IT) They terrified me. So, as I was saying, when I was 12 I finally watched the movie IT. As a young girl I'd been madly in love with Jonathan Brandis. Like MADLY in love. I was sure we would eventually marry. Sadly, he took his own life when Sea Quest was canceled, and I was force to marry another. Back to the movie - since it starred Jonathan Brandis, I was sure that if I were to become frightened I could just concentrate on how incredibly good-looking Brandis was. I did not take into consideration that JB would not be in EVERY scene, and that my plan was stupid since JB's good looks did not have nearly enough power to protect me from the horror of the evil storm drain clown. So anyway, I was terrified. Had nightmares for years. It was awful. I was scared of the clown, scared of storm drains, scared of bathroom sinks. Several years later I had the distinct privilege of viewing the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Dispite the word 'Horror' being in the title, this movie is NOT scary. In fact, it's ridiculous. Completely silly. As the credits rolled, I took note that the same man who played Dr Frankenfurter in RHPS (Tim Curry) also played the evil, horrible clown in the movie IT! Sooo not scary. Ever since that day, whenever IT is on the tube, I can watch and be unafraid. All I have to do is think of the clown in slightly less make-up and his little corset and garters, and Voila! Not Scary Any More
