How old were you when you had your very first boyfriend/girlfriend? Do you still know them now?
Submitted by KIM.Ah, boyfriends. To tell you the truth, I haven't had very many. I guess that's what happens when you marry the same person you were dating when you were 17... but anyway, for the sake of answering the question... let's get into the Way Back Machine.
I guess we should start with High School, because, if memory serves -- middle school boyfriends are only your boyfriend so that the two of you can see who can break-up with whom in the lunch room first...
My first boyfriend of my 9th grade year was a boy named Matt. Matt and I first met at a party being thrown by a set of twins with whom I'd been friends since I was 10. We'll call them T and D. Matt and D dated briefly, but ultimately agreed that they would be better off as friends. So anyway Matt was invited to the party as was I. T and D had a pool table in their basement -- where the party was being held -- where upon Matt and I got acquainted over a friendly game of pool. At the end of the evening Matt asked me for my phone number, which I gave him, and in a later phone conversation asked me if I would be his girlfriend. I said "Sure." or something to that effect, and it was official. We were a 'couple'. Our relationship continued and grew over the next few weeks until I met someone else who's girlfriend I'd rather be, at which time I had my friend Lisa call Matt and deliver the bad news.
To answer the later half of the question, I have absolutely no idea what became of Matt. He was a nice enough kid though, and I hope he's gone on to do and see lots of wonderful things in the past 11 years.
What's odd though, is that 3 later in that very same basement I met my husband over a game of pool on that very same table. It's like T and D's pool table was the alpha and the omega of my 3 year long dating career.
Where do you consider home? Is it the place you grew up; the place you're currently living? Why is it home?
Submitted by uncagedbird.
Home, eh? That's a tough one. Mostly because when I was growing up my family moved a total of 5 times, and since then, my husband and I have moved a total of 9 times. So that's 14 different physical 'homes' in my short 25 years. That means I've moved an average of once every 1.7 years. "Home" the street address is never home for long.
I guess, for me, the feeling of home comes not so much from a building, but from the people and things in the building. I feel at home as long as I have my books, and my couch, and my gecko, and my husband.
There are plenty of adages about where home is...
"Home is Where You Hang Your Hat" - Okay, sure home is where ever you go and unwind, relax and be casual...
"Home is Where The Heart Is" - I can see that. Home is the place you wish you were.
"Home is Where They Stand By You" - Yep, that sounds true enough. Home is where you're accepted.
--similarly--
"Home is Where They Have To Let You In" - Home is where you're accepted no matter what.
"Home is Where The Navy/Army/Marine Corps/Air Force Sends Us" - Home is where you're stationed.
"Home is Where You Hang Your @" - This one seems to ring true for me. HighlandAmy.com has been my cyber home through 3 physical homes... hopefully more, as I'd like to hang on to the domain for a while, but not too many more, as after 14 of them, the novelty of moves has worn a little thin ;)
What other names did your parents consider for you?
Until my emergence my parents expected that I would be a boy baby... so until that day I was Timothy James. Timothy James is a very nice name and all, but I'm glad they decided to go with Amy instead.
What time is your alarm clock set for? Do you use the snooze button?
Our alarm is generally set for 3:15, 3:25, and 3:30. I know, Andy has to get up REALLY early! And do we snooze? Oh yeah. We snooze. That's why it's set to go off several times. Because we will snooze until the the cows come home. Every time it goes off one of us hits snooze - so it pretty much goes off every few minutes until we finally get up.

Why it was just yesterday!
First of all -- you should know that I have no idea where people who live in my neighborhood shop for groceries. I suppose I could ask one of my neighbors -- I'm sure they'd be happy to tell me since they are all SUPER nice, but to be honest their niceness freaks me out a little. Too many years of living in DC I guess.
Anyway -- usually I just drive over to the Naval Air Station and shop at the Commissary. It's not too long of a dive (10 min give or take) and food is cheaper there. Plus I get carded at the door, so that makes me feel less like I'm out buying eggs and breakfast cereal and more like I'm out at some posh night-club.
Yesterday I decided I would NOT go to the commissary and I would just find a grocery store. It would be an adventure and besides -- there had to be one somewhere. People in my neighborhood have to eat -- right? After driving around for about 30 min I finally came upon a Food Lion. Not my first choice in grocer, but geez! 30 min is a long time to drive around without seeing a grocery store! I parked and headed for the door.
As I got close, I noticed two duck-like birds gaurding the Food Lion entrance. I say duck "like" because I've never seen a duck with coloring similar to the coloring of this pair. Anyway, as I approached -- one duck-creature shyed away while the other looked me square in the eye and mimiced my movements! I tried to go left around him and he took a few steps in the same direction I was going. Tried to go right -- same thing. I was confused. What was this creature, and why did he not want me to enter the Food Lion!?!
"All right, out of the way duck!" I finally said rather annoyed.
"Qqquuaak!" He replied.
"What are you?!" I asked less annoyed and more intregued.
To this the duckish creature did not reply. Seeing that other people were now close enough to see/hear me having a conversation with him, he played dumb and stepped aside.
While my brief palaver with the strange fowl did not earn me many answers, it did earn me quite a few odd looks from other Food Lion patrons.

This is horrible. Please don't judge me.
One day, when I was about 14 and my sister was about 10, she was laying on her tummy in the living room watching TV... and I had this AWESOME idea to scare her!! I was planning on getting a running start from the end of the hallway and then when I got into the living room I would pretend to kick her in the head (of course I would stop short of making contact with her skull). I don't know why, but to me, this seemed like it would be THE FUNNIEST THING EVER!!
For several minutes I tried to stifle my laughter (so that my sister wouldn't think anything was up). And then, when I was calm and ready; I launched my plan. I started running. Then I engaged the 'fake-kick-in-the-head' Only, it turned out that I'd somehow miscalculated how far to kick and with how much force -- and I ended-up kicking her in the temple. REALLY HARD.
Anyway, the second my foot made contact with her skull, I immedietly felt horrible, dropped to my knees and cradled her head in my lap. As I began to apologize profusely, she looked-up at me and I will never forget the look of combined horror and confusion on her face. It was as if she was thinking "I'm in horrible pain - that you caused - and yet you are holding me?"
Have you ever had plastic or elective surgery? Did you tell anyone? Why or why not?
Submitted by Beth Punches.
First question: No. That answer sort of nullifies the other two, but I want to explain my feelings on elective cosmetic surgery.
I know a lot of people claim to have been helped by plastic surgery, that it makes them feel better about themselves... but I think it's a sad state of affairs when people put so much stock into how they look on the outside and what other people think of how they look, that they are willing to undergo a dangerous medical procedure to change it. Plastic surgery's not dangerous you say? All surgery is dangerous. When you are being put under anesthesia, cut open and your insides shifted around, sucked out or filled in with inorganic material - there are always risks. Anyone who tells you different is lying to you or trying to take your money.
So anyway... no, I've never had plastic surgery... and unless I undergo a major paradigm shift, I seriously doubt I ever will.
Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?
I used to. I watched a lot of Star Trek as a kid and that show sort of got me thinking about the vastness of the universe and how it's sort of egocentric of us to think that in the whole great expanse of being that WE are the only sentient beings.
Having grown older and wiser in the ways of the word, I'm having my doubts about there being intelligent life on THIS planet.
